Another New Year's good luck tradition- this version was inspired from a Todd Richards' version in the Jan 2021 edition of Food and Wine magazine.

Ingredients

  1. Heat oil in large stock pot or dutch oven
  2. Add bacon and cook until slightly browned
  3. Add turnips, onion, salt, pepper, and cook until starting to soften.
  4. Add celery, garlic, bay leaves, spices and cook stirring constantly until fragrant.
  5. Add peas and chicken stock and bring to a simmer over med-high heat.
  6. Reduce heat, cover and cook, stirring occasionally until peas are tender (about 10 minutes)
  7. Remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes.
  8. Remove bay leaves, add S&P to taste, serve over rice and top with scallions
